W. Paul Reeve is the Simmons Chair of Mormon Studies in the History Department at the University of Utah where he teaches courses on Utah history, Mormon history, and the history of the U.S. West. He is the author of the award-winning 2015 book, Religion of a Different Color: Race and the Mormon Struggle for Whiteness, in addition to Let’s Talk About Race and the Priesthood. And he’s also got a new book fresh off the press called This Abominable Slavery: Race, Religion, and the Battle Over Human Bondage in Antebellum Utah—which covers a lot of what we’re going to be talking about today.
